Good Old Bytes is a digital history site. We write about companies, products, software, systems, formats, and people from the past and present. This page explains important limits.
General information only
The articles on this site are for general information, history, and commentary. They are not professional advice. Do not use them as your only source for legal, financial, security, or business choices.
Accuracy
We try to check facts and explain things clearly. Still, old technology history can be hard. Sources may disagree. Company stories may be incomplete. Dates, names, product details, and business facts can be corrected if better information appears.
Opinions
Some articles include opinion, judgment, humor, or plain talk. We may call a choice strange, bad, clever, funny, or painful. That is commentary, not a claim that every reader must agree with.
Trademarks and brands
Names like IBM, Apple, Microsoft, Google, WordPerfect, WinZip, Netscape, Sun, SGI, DEC, and others belong to their owners. Good Old Bytes is not endorsed by those companies unless clearly stated.
Old screenshots and product images
We may use screenshots, box art, logos, ads, and product images to explain history and identify products. These items belong to their owners. They are used for commentary, education, news, criticism, and reference.
External links
Some links go to other websites. We do not control those websites and cannot promise that their content is correct, safe, or still available.
